Medical Elective Program

Ethical Medical Volunteering & Cultural Learning in Kumasi, Ghana

The PYVO Upliftment Medical Elective Programme is a structured, ethical global health experience designed specifically for school groups, universities, and organised educational teams.

Participants gain first-hand exposure to healthcare systems in Ghana through supervised placements, community outreach initiatives, and meaningful cultural immersion — while supporting locally led healthcare efforts responsibly.

Our programmes combine professional medical shadowing, community health outreach, cultural exchange, and educational reflection to create a balanced and impactful international learning experience.

🌍 Ethical Volunteering & Responsible Global Health

At PYVO, the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of both participants and local communities are at the heart of everything we do.

We believe international volunteering must be:

✔ Ethical

✔ Respectful

✔ Educational

✔ Sustainable

Students learn through collaboration, observation, and supervised support — never replacing local professionals or creating dependency.

Our projects are community-led and guided by local needs, ensuring that engagement benefits both participants and host communities.

🛡 Safeguarding First

PYVO maintains strong safeguarding standards aligned with international best practices and expectations of UK schools and educational institutions.

* Respect for child protection policies at partner organisations

* Ethical guidelines for interaction with vulnerable individuals

* Structured orientation covering cultural awareness and safeguarding expectations

* Continuous on-site support from PYVO staff

Participants are never placed in unsupervised positions involving children or patients.
